The Skills Gap Project is a comprehensive research project which examines various data sources to determine whether Massachusetts is, or soon could be, experiencing gaps between the labor needs of businesses and the availability of skilled workers. CommCorp partnered with several research organizations and an advisory team to kick off this study.
Need
At the same time that many employers are struggling to find skilled workers, large numbers of workers remain unemployed and underemployed. These seemingly contradictory findings point to a "skills gap," a mismatch between the skills of those looking for work and the needs of employers. The project seeks to dig more deeply into the underlying issues through the lens of employers and workers.
Solution
The Skills Gap project relies on a team of researchers to analyze employer surveys, unemployment data, Census and other data to create a series of reports which detail current and future labor supply and demand, industry-specific skills gaps, and underlying causes, as well as implications and recommendations.
Impact
The findings from the Skills Gap project are shared with policy-makers and practitioners across the state, creating a basis for evidence-based policy-making to address these issues.
